Join the Virginia Glee Club on Friday, May 17, 2024 at 8:00 PM in the newly renovated University Chapel for our annual Finals Concert at the start of UVA graduation weekend.
Open to all parents and students at UVA, as well as alumni and community supporters, Glee Club will share the music it has learned over the year, showcasing the unique sound of tenor-bass choral sacred and secular music. We will also honor those students who have been engaged in Club leadership during this 153rd season, award the VGC Singer Scholarship and bid a fond farewell to those 4th (and 5th+ years) who will be graduating this year.
This concert is free and open to the public.
Directed by Grammy Award winning conductor Frank Albinder, the Virginia Glee Club is the oldest musical organization at the University of Virginia and one of the oldest collegiate tenor-bass choirs in the nation, founded in 1871. Members of club come from different schools throughout the University and consider themselves a “fraternity of talent”.
Each year Club endeavors to take a tour to share the music they have learned through the year. Last year, Club embarked on an International tour to England and Wales and this year a domestic ‘Tour of the South’ including performances and collaborations in Johnson City, Chattanooga, Atlanta, Jackson, Birmingham, Charlotte, and Roanoke. Selections to be performed include pieces of both secular and sacred choral traditions highlighting the unique qualities of the tenor and bass voice.
