The UVA Department of Music presents the 55th annual Messiah Sing-In on Tuesday, December 6th at 8pm in Old Cabell Hall. The Sing-In is conducted by Michael Slon, UVA’s Director of Choral Music, and benefits the University’s choral ensembles.
Join Charlottesville’s choral community as well as singers from the University Singers, the UVA Chamber Singers, the Virginia Glee Club and the Virginia Women’s Chorus, as they fill Old Cabell Hall with Handel’s glorious music!
Through the years – and even a virtual version during the pandemic – the UVA Messiah Sing-In has remained a simple and joyous event, relying on the University and Charlottesville community to come together to sing and perform one of the greatest oratorios ever written. The event remains one of the first in the nation, started in 1968 by Professor emeritus Donald Loach, who led the event for 50 years before passing the baton to Michael Slon.
Singing participants for the event sit in sections arranged according to vocal part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass), and copies of the vocal score will be available for those who do not have their own.
Tickets may be purchased at the UVA Arts Box Office, (434) 924-3376, or online at https://artsboxoffice.virginia.edu/. Tickets will also be available at the door.
Old Cabell Hall is located on the south end of UVA’s historic lawn, directly opposite the Rotunda (map). Parking is available in the Central Grounds parking garage on Emmet Street, in the C1 parking lot off McCormick Road, and in the parking lots at the UVA Corner.
